Our Treatment Procedures

Ultrasound Guided Injections

Ultrasound helps interventional pain physicians deliver pain relieving medicines (typically a steroid and a numbing medicine) to the target site with extreme precision. Ultrasound is innocuous without all the hazards associated with x-ray guidance.

Your SWOPI interventional pain physician will determine whether to use Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound or both to carry out a safe and exacting injection or interventional procedure.

The procedures are minimally invasive and well-tolerated. Regular activity should be resumed as usual within 15 minutes.

Radio Frequency Ablation

Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA)

Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) is a procedure helpful in reducing pain for long periods of time. At SWOPI, we use this technique to diminish pain sensations coming from a painful area (for example, painful knees). The technique is very safe, does not need sedation and is done under local anesthesia, it requires minimal downtime. Please talk to your SWOPI physician to see if this technique can be used in your particular case..

Intravenous Lidocaine/ Ketamine

Ketamine infusion (alone or in combination with Lidocaine) has been applied to a variety of pain conditions with promising results. Sometimes we are stuck dealing with certain pain conditions and most if not all medications that were tried were either ineffective or had many side effects. In these situations ketamine infusion may provide a window of relief that we can use to foster a more comprehensive approach to manage chronic pain.

If you have any of the following conditions, please talk to your pain specialist to see if Ketamine infusion is right for you:

  • Chronic neuropathic (nerve) pain syndromes
  • Trigeminal neuralgia.
  • Post herpetic neuralgia
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Chronic pain with central sensitization
  • Chronic migraine
  • Fibromyalgia

PRP-&-Regenerative-medicine

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) & Regenerative medicine

Regenerative therapy plays a crucial role in alleviating pain and boosting healing mechanisms using regenerative properties of cells, platelets, and plasma growth factors. Our regenerative medicine includes the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to help patients get relief from chronic musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, muscle tears, or tissue inflammation. Research indicates that PRP injections may be useful for patients with arthritis and other degenerative conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • ACL / MCL tears
  • Back and neck injuries
  • Muscle and ligament sprains

Please consult your SWOPI physician to see if PRP is an option for you.

Botox Injections

Botulinum toxin therapy, i.e. Botox injection has been used in the field of chronic pain management for over two decades. The mechanism (s) by which this medication relieves chronic pain are still under research. Botox may help ease pain by relaxing surrounding muscles and increasing blood flow to underlying tissues, thus promoting healing and relieving nerve compression, It may act as an anti-inflammatory agent in a unique way and it may have intrinsic analgesic properties of its own.

Conditions in which Botox injections may be considered:

  • Migraines
  • Daily headaches
  • Facial pain
  • Myofascial pain
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Pelvic pain
  • Knee arthritis
  • Low back pain

Virtual Reality Session (VR)

Although still in its very early stages, VR has made its way into the world of chronic pain management. SWOPI is pleased to offer this Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) approach to manage stress, anxiety and improve coping skills.

Speak with our team  to see how you can use VR to manage chronic pain.
